Washington Filmworks Announces

Washington Filmworks approves funding assistance for 6 commercials and 1 feature film. These projects mark a total of 52 projects approved through the Washington Filmworks program since inception in 2007.

Washington Filmworks 2010 Viral Video Competition "Through the Filmmaker's Lens"

Washington Filmworks has announced the 2010 Viral Video Competition "Through The Filmmaker's Lens." This years competition invites filmmakers (novice to expert) to create 2 minute videos showing how living and working in Washington State impacts their filmmaking process. Submitted videos can be in any genre or style --animation, narrative, documentary, music video, etc. Filmmakers statewide are invited to submit digital videos, not to exceed 2 minutes in length, from September 21 until noon November 1, 2010. The winner of the Viral Video Competition will receive a $3000 cash prize and a two-week run at local theatres. For more information please visit: Washington Filmworks NEWS & EVENTS.

Washington Filmworks Hosts Veteran Filmmaker Rodrigo Garcia

On Monday, August 30 Washington Filmworks and Warren Etheredge of The Warren Report hosted writer, director, producer, cinematographer, (and son of celebrated writer Gabriel Garcia Marques), Rodrigo Garcia for an educated conversation about the business of film. The Sorrento Hotel catered to yet another didactic evening of libations and panoramic views of the city in their Top of the Town Room while Rodrigo shared stories of his 20+ years in the film industry.

Make sure to check out Rodrigo's most recent film Mother and Child which premiered at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival and was considered one of the best films of the year.

Executive Director Amy Lillard Heads to Spokane

Amy Lillard traveled with board members Becky Bogard and Greg Smith to Spokane on Monday, September 27 to visit the set of the River Sorrow, a feature film currently in production, and to attend the second FilmPAC event. The FilmPAC event honored east side legislators Senator Lisa Brown, Senator Mike Hewitt and Representative Kevin Parker, all whom have been tremendously supportive of the film industry. During her brief trip to Spokane Amy also had an opportunity to meet with WJ Lazerus, the president of the board of directors of KNIFES, to talk about how WF can help support the independent film movement on the Eastside of the state.

Teamsters Local 174 New Business Agent Representing Film Industry Drivers and Location Managers

Washington Filmworks would like to welcome Dave Jacobsen, Teamster Local 174's newest Business Agent, representing film industry drivers and location managers. Dave will be taking over for Tom George who spent the last two years offering support to the needs of our industry. Thank you Tom for you dedication, and please join us in welcoming Dave, we look forward to a continued great working relationship.

Washington Filmworks is Seeking an Intern!

Currently, WF is seeking a part-time Intern with a minimum 3-month commitment of 15 hours per week. Prior background in film not required, but individuals must be self-motivated with strong communication, computer, writing, and organizational/research skills.

Applicants must be enrolled in a post-secondary educational program leading to an undergraduate or graduate degree and in good standing at their college or university. Students must retain their status until the end of the internship.
