All production companies must contact the Department of Labor and Industries when hiring any minors for any type of project. The link to the theatrical child labor site is here.

A Master Business License with a minor work permit endorsement is required when a person or company is hiring minors. A UBI Number is the "Unified Business Identifier Number" and is the same as a Tax Identification Number or a Washington State Business Number.

*When registering to do business in the State of Washington you may be subject to Business and Occupation Tax. Consult the Department of Revenue or your payroll services company for details.

A variance is needed if:

AGE HOURS PER DAY
Under 6 year olds 6 hours (excluding meal periods, including school time, if any)
6 – 9 year olds 8 hours (excluding meal periods, including school time, if any)
9 – 13 year olds
9 hours (excluding meal periods, including school time, if any)
14 – 15 year olds
3 hours School Weeks (8 hours Sat – Sun)
8 hours Non-School Weeks
16-17 year olds 4 hours School Weeks (8 hours Sat-Sun)
6 hours School Weeks with a variance (8 hours Fri-Sun)
8 hours Non School Weeks
