Karl Epps is a Seattle-based filmmaker, director, writer, and producer whose work centers on character-driven storytelling grounded in emotional truth, social realism, and humor. He directed his first feature film out of film school, Parental Guidance (also known as Kinfolk’s), which aired on BET Starz, marking his emergence as a distinctive voice in independent filmmaking.

Karl has also directed fan episodes inspired by Euphoria and Malcolm & Marie, further refining his visual language and performance-driven approach. His work often explores identity, family dynamics, and cultural intersections through intimate, grounded narratives.

Earlier in his career, Karl worked in television production as a Stage Manager on series including The Parent ’Hood, The Wayans Bros., and Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, and as an Assistant Director on The Hughleys. These formative experiences shaped his understanding of performance, pacing, and on-set leadership.

He is currently developing Her Quinceañera, a warm comedy-drama in which an African American father finds himself hilariously out of his depth while navigating culture, tradition, and chaos as he plans his Latina daughter’s quinceañera.
