On behalf of the board of Washington Filmworks, I am pleased to announce that we recently voted to approve funding assistance for two projects, the 5th season of Z Nation and the feature film Language Arts.
The hit Syfy television series Z Nation returns to Spokane for an additional 13 episodes with a start date this spring. And Seattle based director Cornelia D. Moore will helm the feature film Language Arts based on a novel of the same name by Washington State author Stephanie Kallos. The film will be produced by Larry Estes. This year’s fund will help facilitate filming in both of the production centers of Seattle and Spokane and provides health and retirement benefits and over 7900 worker days for local cast and crew.
With the 10-year renewal of the Motion Picture Competitiveness Program during the 2017 legislative session, the board is now focused on developing long term economic development strategies that drive new and innovative ways to support Washington’s film industry. We look forward to debuting a Washington Filmmaker Incentive later this year aimed at supporting resident filmmakers, as the first of several initiatives we hope to initiate in the next few years.
Should you have any questions, please direct them to myself or Executive Director Amy Lillard.
