Dear Washington State Film Industry,

Today marks the opening of the 2015 legislative session.

After attending Filmworks’ Town Hall events last year, we know that increasing the size of Washington’s production incentive program remains a top priority for the statewide industry. As Co-Chairs of Washington Filmworks’ Advocacy Committee, we are deeply committed to thinking creatively about how to make this happen.

We all agree that increasing the size of the fund is vital. The question that remains for us is how to build the broadest base of support to achieve success in Olympia, and what exactly to ask for.  We continue to work with elected officials, union representatives and Filmworks’ board and staff to identify how we can move forward with legislation. There is still important work to be done. As updates occur, we will do our best to make sure the entire film community is informed right away.

If you are looking to do something while we’re still gearing up, we encourage you to check out Washington Filmworks’ Know Your Legislator, Know Your District” campaign on their blog.  It is critical that we identify and can quickly reach out to film industry professionals in every legislative district in Washington State.  We will succeed only if we have support throughout the State, from both Democrats and Republicans. Also please sign up up for Washington Filmworks’ newsletter and blog (washingtonfilmworks.org/subscribe) to ensure that you get all the breaking news. Like making a movie, things will happen very slowly and then suddenly very fast. We need to be ready.

Thank you for your continued support of Washington Filmworks. We’re all in this together.

Sincerely,

James Keblas and Lance Rosen
