253 Collective

A group of passionate filmmakers have come together to form the 253 Film Collective. This group is dedicated to fostering a vibrant and sustainable film and media community in Tacoma, by encouraging, mentoring, and promoting local filmmakers and businesses. The 253 Film Collective is committed to sustaining and growing opportunities for more motion picture production in the city.

Amy Lillard, WF Executive Director, and Krys Karns, WF Production Services Coordinator, visited the collective last month. They gave a presentation on the business of film in Washington State and discussed the ongoing importance of maintaining relationships with elected officials. The ladies had a great time learning more about the collective and meeting with area filmmakers.

In addition to the efforts of the 253 Film Collective, the City of Tacoma is also taking steps to foster more production in the area. They’ve recently implemented standard procedures for permitting and production inquiries. Contact Kala Dralle, Special Projects Manager with the City of Tacoma, for further information at (253) 573-2523 or kdralle@cityoftacoma.org. Tacoma was also WF’s January Location of the Month.

Interested in participating? The 253 Film Collective has opened the nominations process for executive staff. Available positions include Executive Director, Treasurer and Secretary. Collective Members are encouraged to nominate strong candidates, including self-nominations. All nominations require two “seconds” in order to be considered for a vote at the end of March.  If you are a 253 Filmmaker, please join the discussion on the Facebook group page.
