In horrific honor of Halloween, Washington Filmworks presents a spooktacular special blog post about Z-Nation!

Our friends at Media-Inc recently published a piece about the Spokane production’s makeup team. “Blood, gore, and guts – all the stuff we love about zombie flicks – wouldn’t be possible without a great makeup team,” writes Stephanie Hoover and Crystal Foley, guest columnists. The article profiles Corinne Foster, the team’s lead, who relishes in taking an original and creative approach to the look of the zombies.

Not all zombies are created equally – Foster came up with the makeup for “nuclear zombies, toxic zombies, oil zombies, and dust cloud zombies,” to convey the variety of terror at play during the apocalyptic period. And these aren’t typical, one-dimensional, brain-hungry barbarians – most the series’ zombies have an interesting dose of character and backstory, going into Foster’s physical creation.

Learn more about Foster’s process and how heavily makeup plays a role in the production of the series here, and tune in to Z-Nation Fridays at 10pm on the Syfy Channel!
