LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

House and Senate Budget Negotiations Underway

We wanted to update the film industry about the status of SB 6027, the bill to increase funding for the Motion Picture Competitiveness Program.

Both the House and Senate have published drafts of their proposed operating budgets. Over the next several weeks, elected officials will be reconciling the two proposals and making decisions about what bills will be approved and included in the final budget. Similar to other revenue bills, SB 6027 is still in the Ways and Means Committee and eligible for consideration and not subject to any fiscal or bill cut off dates.

Our lobbying team in Olympia has suggested that the grassroots efforts of our statewide film community have kept the bill very much alive and in play.  During this interim period, as the budget gets negotiated, Washington Filmworks will continue to circulate updates and information that you can use to advocate on behalf of SB 6027.

Please stay tuned – more to come as things develop in Olympia.

Thank you for your continued support and let’s KEEP FILM IN WA!
