Samantha-Lynn Martinez (she/her) is a Filipina-American marine ecologist, graphic designer, illustrator, camerawoman, and science communicator based in Seattle, Washington. In tandem with her background as a scientist, Samantha aims to utilize her passions for art and communication to make engaging with science more accessible for folks from all walks of life, through her designs, filmmaking, and presenting. Samantha has worked closely with other aspiring and professional wildlife/natural history camerawomen in recent years, and hopes to create more media surrounding the world of science in her backyards across the Pacific Ocean, Washington and the Philippines. She is an intense believer in the power of young voices in the field of conservation work and media, and aims to bring more stories of community-based conservation and collaboration to life through documentary film. Passionate about fieldwork, she has spent her summers on board exploration and research vessels spanning from the Aleutian Islands in Alaska as a Steller Sea Lion ecologist, all the way down to the South Pacific in American Samoa as a video engineer with the E/V Nautilus. Some of her projects include educational videos with the Burke Museum and NOAA Fisheries West Coast, and is working on an upcoming documentary about hummingbird research based in Colombia.
