Misael, also known as Misa, is a documentary filmmaker and owner of MediaRoom, a media production company located in Olympia, WA. Born in Puerto Rico, he was raised in both Borikén (the Taino name for Puerto Rico) and Kiskeya (the Taino name for the Dominican Republic). His cultural roots are significant in his documentary work, highlighting food justice issues, colonialism, and art. His short documentary “Raíces,” about food sovereignty in Puerto Rico has been featured in multiple festivals, including the New York Latino Film Festival. When not working on documentaries or commercial film projects, Misa serves as a Board member of the Seattle Documentary Association (SeaDoc), member of Washington Filmworks’ Film Leadership Council, conducts production workshops, or supports his media peers with their projects. This foodie and bookworm also enjoys using his DJ skills to play retro dance music on vintage turntables in his free time. Misa is an alumnus of the University of Puerto Rico, where he got a Master’s Degree in Marketing.
