Bunthoeun Real (he/him)

Bunthoeun Real is an award winning Cambodian American writer, director, and producer from Tacoma, Washington. He is best known for the award-winning short, Donut Boy, in which he wrote and directed a story about a young Cambodian man who’s trying to get into the next tier of amateur boxing. For his work on Donut Boy, Bunthoeun was awarded the Vin Di Bona Golden Circle Award from the Caucus Foundation and, the industry award for Best Drama at the USC First Look Award Ceremony as well as many other awards at various festivals. Donut Boy was selected for the prestigious WME FutureFest and capped off the opening ceremony at the Cambodian International Film Festival. Bunthoeun helped produced the short film Trife and earned a nomination for a Student Emmy for Best Drama. He is a graduate of USC where he received his master’s in fine arts in Film and Television Production and is mentored by Emmy winner, Greg Yaitanes (House, Presumed Innocent, House of the Dragon). Bunthoeun is interested in telling meaningful stories that breaks the barrier of colors and ethnicities and hopes to inspire others like himself to tell their stories.
