Film Office FAQs
Who can receive support from the Film Office?
Our Film Office is available to every production filming in Washington State regardless of size, budget, or incentive participation.
Is the Film Office a physical office I can visit?
Our Film Office is a team, not a physical office. We work statewide to connect productions with the people, resources, and information they need to successfully film in Washington. While much of our support is provided by phone, email, and virtual meetings, we’re always happy to connect and help point you in the right direction.
What kind of support does the Film Office provide?
Our team provides personalized guidance throughout the production process. This might include location assistance, permitting guidance, production planning resources, local connections, and so much more. If we don’t have the answer, we’ll help connect you with someone who does.
Does it cost anything to work the the Film Office?
No. The Film Office is a free resource to productions filming in Washington.
When should I contact the Film Office?
As early as possible. Reaching out during the planning stages gives us the greatest opportunity to connect you with the right people, resources, and information. We’re happy to assist at any stage, but early engagement allows us to provide the most meaningful support.
How quickly can I expect a response?
We do our best to respond to every inquiry as quickly as possible. This can vary based on inquiry volume and the complexity of your request, but our team will acknowledge your request and connect with you as soon as we can! If your request is time sensitive, please let us know.
Do I have to apply for Washington Filmworks’ incentive program to receive Film Office support?
No. Our Film Office supports every production filming in Washington whether it participates in our incentive program or not.
Can you help me find local crew and production support?
Absolutely. Washington Filmworks maintains the Production Directory as a free, searchable resource to help productions connect with local crew, vendors, production companies, and support services throughout the state. To ensure every listing receives fair and equal consideration, we do not recommend or endorse individual business or service providers.
Do I need a permit to film in Washington?
Permit requirements vary depending on where you’re filming, what you’re filming, and how your production will impact the surrounding area. Different agencies, jurisdictions, and property owners may have different permitting processes and timelines. You’ll find more detailed information on our Production Resources page and should feel free to reach out if you’re stumped!
I’m bringing a production to Washington from out of state. Can you help?
100%. Productions come to Washington from all over the world and our Film Office can help you get oriented. We’ll connect you with the right people, resources, and information so you can confidently plan and produce your project in Washington.
Why should I tell Washington Filmworks about my project?
Sharing your project helps us build a more complete picture of production activity across Washington. That information helps us measure the impact of the film industry, communicate its value, and better understand how productions are contributing to communities throughout the state. It also helps us connect you with support and resources if questions arise.
I still have questions…what should I do?
