Five Things to Do Right Now — Introducing Our Locations Database

Washington Filmworks has a premier locations database platform that is searchable internationally. This is one of the first stops for location managers and scouts, when searching for places to film in Washington state. It’s also where our Film Office Manager goes to put together location packages to present to productions for specific types of locations. We are pleased to share our self-submission page that allows anyone to upload their property as a film friendly location.

Here are five things you can do right now to market your community:

1. Check out your profile: Search the Washington Filmworks locations database by county or town and look at each location that is currently listed HERE. Create a list of any corrections needed to existing locations and share this with us at Info@WashingtonFilmworks.org Put LOCATIONS DATABASE in the subject line. Please be patient. It may take up to 30 days for corrections to be made. Now, create a list of locations you wish were listed.

2. Take great location photos: Location photos matter. Filmmakers like to see the ‘big picture,’ so think wide angle and panorama shots. Take photos of all structures to showcase a location, as you never know what location managers are looking for. No people in photos please. Our Locations Database allows up to 20 photos per location, so take several. Find more tips HERE.

3. Feature ONE public location: Determine one missing public place that you believe would be a great film location that is unique to your area. Research what permits are needed and if drones are allowed. Write a brief description, including available parking. Take photos. Load it up into the locations database HERE. We have an internal approval process, so it may take a couple of weeks before any new listing is live.

4. Feature one private location: Determine one missing private location that you believe would be a great film location. Find the property owner and ask if they would like it to be considered. If they say yes, work with them to write up a description, take photos, and load it into our Location Database. Please note during loading, the property owner must give you permission to check a box indicating they own the property and have the authority to submit the photos and description. Share these guidelines with property owners HERE.

5. Develop a plan: Write a list of key public and private locations that are unique to your destination that are missing from your profile. Now that you know how many steps are involved with getting one location loaded, develop a reasonable plan and timeline for building out your profile.
