Dan Merchant is a veteran television showrunner best known for his current series Going Home, the tender drama for Sony AFFIRM Originals starring Cynthia Geary (Northern Exposure) as a warm-hearted hospice nurse on a mission. Season one debuted in summer 2022 and was the #1 series on (Great American) Pure Flix. Season two of Going Home made its streaming debut on Great American Pure Flix January 5 th, 2024. Also airing in 2022, Dan created, directed and executive produced the gentle workplace comedy Live + Local for Sony/Pure Flix. Set at faith-based local radio station KHUGG-FM, the innovative comedy stars Dave Coulier (Full House) as a morning drivetime DJ who welcomes real guests onto his fake show: season one guests included comedian Leanne Morgan, Skillet’s John Cooper and The Chosen’s Dallas Jenkins. Dan and Sony AFFIRM TV are updating season two of Live + Local for a cable or streaming outlet. Currently, Dan is developing Thou Shalt Not, a series of faith infused neo-noir thrillers for Lifetime inspired by the Ten Commandments. Dan is producing with Releve Entertainment. Dan is also developing a medical dramedy as a vehicle for the diverse talents of Dave Coulier entitled Doctor Dave – think “Patch Adams meets Doogie Howser, M.D.”. Previously, Dan served as a writer/director/executive producer on SyFy’s zombie horror-comedy hit Z Nation, all five seasons, and served as a Co-Executive Producer on season one of Black Summer, Z Nation’s prequel for Netflix. Dan’s first showrunner gig c ame in 2000 on VH1’s first-ever dramatic series, Strange Frequency, the “rock-n-roll Twilight Zone” anthology he created for the iconic music channel. A “self-taught” expert on faith and culture in America, Dan wrote/produced/directed the indie feature documentary Lord, Save Us From Your Followers in 2009.
