Dawit Borrows is a photographer, writer-director, and producer based in Seattle, Washington. He is the founder of Tambia Productions, where he directs and produces short films, music videos, photoshoots, and art-centered community events.

Dawit began his creative journey during his senior year of high school, teaching himself photography by shooting on iPhones and DSLRs borrowed from friends. He carried that interest to the University of Washington, where he worked as a photojournalist for the university’s Daily newspaper. There, he developed a strong foundation in visual storytelling and documentary photography.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Dawit shifted his focus to photographing his family, using the period to further hone his skills in portraiture. After the pandemic, he transitioned into freelance photography, expanding his work across Seattle’s creative community. As he began collaborating with musicians, his photography evolved into directing music videos, which ultimately led him into narrative filmmaking.

His debut short film, Shit Sandwich (2025), was selected as a finalist for Best Under 5 Minute Film at the New York International Film Awards and continues to screen at festivals across the United States. His most recent film, Sun of the Valley (2026), draws inspiration from his upbringing in Skyway and Seattle’s Rainier Valley and is currently on the festival circuit.
