Julio Ramírez-Ramos (he/him)

Julio Ramírez-Ramos is a Colombian American filmmaker who began his career at a very young age assisting the producers of Oedipus Mayor, an international co-production written by Gabriel García Márquez. He completed a combined graduate program in Social Communications and Journalism at Pontifical Javeriana University in Bogotá, and at the European Institute of Design & Communications in Milan and Rome. His thesis-internship with Italian Filmmaker’s Magazine and the Turin Film Festival, earned him the highest thesis distinction in his class. He attended the Hands-On Filmmaking program at the Seattle Film Institute and the screenwriting program at TheFilmSchool. A SAG actor, Ramírez-Ramos has trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and Freehold Theatre-Lab, among other institutions. He has written, produced, and directed short films in Super 16, Super 8, and digital formats. His feature film Nothing Against Life received the UNICEF Special Jury Award at the former San Marino International Film Festival, and the HERO Award from the Washington State Youth Suicide Prevention Program. He has received mentorship from respected filmmakers across the globe, from Asia to South America, an experience that has deeply influenced his creative approach. He directs and produces commercial projects and works as an editor, consultant, and talent, and has supported the work of several nonprofit organizations, emerging filmmakers, and artists worldwide.
