Maria Gargiulo

Maria Gargiulo is an Emmy award winning producer/director whose work has appeared on PBS, the Discovery Channel, Fox, CBS and film festivals around the world.

She began her career straddling the world of corporate production and social issue documentaries. As a commercial producer/director, she has worked with national clients such as Google, Chrysler, and others. Her documentary work has taken her to Africa and Asia on subjects as diverse as domestic violence, global health, farmers land movement, sexual abuse, and gang violence.

Pivoting to the Indy world of dramatic narrative, she directed films such as The Collectors (Best Television Drama at the ITVFest) and Got 2 Come Up: A Day in the Life of a Young Man, (Best Dramatic Short/Black Programming Consortium). Her punk comedy, The Year of My Japanese Cousin, highlights the Seattle music scene and features grunge bands of the era.

Gargiulo is a graduate of the American Film Institute and Stanford University where she was one of the first recipients of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship.

Recently, she designed and now oversees a one-year film production program within the University of Washington’s School of Professional Education. She is currently seeking scholarship funds for students who are under-represented within the industry.
