Shay is a Seattle-based filmmaker who believes that clear communication, trust, and empathy are the foundation of any successful production. She holds a BFA in Film Production from the University of British Columbia, where she wrote and directed two short films, Thursday Night (2020) and In Loving Memory (2021). A sapphic filmmaker, she is passionate about writing and supporting queer stories, including Thursday Night, which centers everyday queer intimacy and connection.
She has built her career across narrative features, short films, and commercial content as an Assistant Director, Producer, and Editor. Coordinating departments, building efficient schedules, and fostering a supportive, solutions-driven set culture are where she thrives. Recent work includes serving as 2nd Assistant Director on the upcoming feature Gamers 4: Dorkness Falls! (2025), as well as leading production as 1st Assistant Director on the shorts Autumn Daze (2025) and His Story (2025).
She thrives in collaborative environments, creates space where every voice is heard, and is deeply committed to bringing thoughtful, inclusive stories to life with care, efficiency, and excitement.
