Tonight Capitol Hill’s storied Egyptian Theatre closes its doors. The iconic 600-seat movie house is scheduled to go dark at the end of this month according to Landmark Theatres, which has leased the Egyptian since 1989. While Landmark Theatres has long used the Egyptian to showcase foreign films, art-house independent films, documentaries, and classic cinema, they have chosen to not renew their lease.
Television is heading online. The rise of streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon.com, and HBO’s HBOGO has caused many to turn off the TV, and to turn to their computers and mobile devices to watch their favorite shows.

Washington Filmworks recently caught up with Marc Dahlstrom, producer of the Washington incentive feature film Different Drummers. We wanted to find out more about the project and how the film incentive factored into the decision to shoot in Washington.
Incentive programs aren’t just for film. The interactive and gaming worlds have tapped into incentive driven funding as well. The UK and Montreal are two areas that have recently developed tax incentive programs for game developers, comparable to those offered to film production.
The Shoreline Film Office opened its doors at Shoreline Community College earlier this month, making it the 5th film office to open in Washington State. The entity is a partnership between SCC and the City of Shoreline.
