How Film Multiplied Business For One Restaurant

Steve and Marti Brown own Stella’s Cafe in Spokane, WA, a restaurant conveniently located next to a bustling production office. The Browns have become quite friendly with the local cast and crew, who come in daily to eat. As they suggest in this video, the extra revenue generated by the film industry gave Steve and Marti the confidence to open Ruins Cocktail Lounge & Restaurant (which is enjoyed by both film professionals and local residents alike).

Send this video to your elected officials and remind them that:

  • 50% of all production budgets are spent with local businesses. Having a production in your town means meals at local restaurants, hotel rooms filled, groceries purchased from the local store, vehicles and supplies rented, and wardrobe and set decorations purchased from local, main street shops.
  • Every sector of the economy feels the boost from a film production – and only 5% of businesses that productions spend money with are unique to film.

Ask your legislators to support the legislation to extend the sunset date and increase the funding for the Motion Picture Competitiveness Program during this legislative session.
